I am an avid reader of mystery and crime fiction novels and "Fear in the Shadow" is one of the most entertaining reads I've found in the last years.
It has all the elements you are looking for in a thriller endless action scenes, love and murders, changes of scenery and exotic locations, with sense of humour (I love Manny's bitter jokes) in many parts of it.
The plot is well thought and outlined, with a main line of the story seasoned with continuous surprises and unexpected twists from the beginning to the very end. I was glued to my until the last page as was not sure what was going to happen...
The author has obviously a good knowledge of the sea navigation and it's also evident that he has carried out a very thorough and comprehensive research.
The portrayal of characters is excellent, making them believable in their archetypes roles of good and evil - I found it very easy to empathize with their feelings and emotions in their adventures.
Overall, a hugely entertaining novel. I look forward to reading the new adventures of Sean and Manny... they might better arrive soon!

A rip roaring tale of intrigue and espionage if you don't want to sleep or have a holiday planned this is certainly a great companion.
A wonderful yarn. Very well told and as an ocean engineer and South African, very accurate.
The ending was extremely satisfying and kept me guessing till the end
When is the next one coming out?
My first time to read this author and my first kindle read! It was a virtual page turner, clear your diary when you start reading the book as you won't want to put it down. Frustrating that the next part of this trilogy is not available I want to know what happens next......
Highly entertaining adventure tale from an author who is new to writing but promises much with parts 2 and 3 of this trilogy. Part 1 lays down the characters well, real men and a damsel in distress, twisted, evil villain and his narcissistic mother, a dastardly world threat and plot with many turns. Maguire sets the scene well and demonstrates an intimate understanding of the sea and all things nautical. I'm looking forward to the next instalment already !
